A 20 strong team are dusting off their hiking boots as we prepare to take part in one of our most difficult charity challenges yet – HELL-vellyn!
We are climbing Helvellyn, the third highest mountain in the UK with a 950m elevation, on 21st May to raise funds for our charity of the year, Newcastle West End Foodbank. If this wasn’t enough of a challenge, our walkers will be armed with backpacks loaded with tins that will go on to be donated to the Foodbank and the more money we raise, the more tins they will carry.
Newcastle West End Foodbank opened in 2013 and provides nutritionally balanced food and support to local people in crisis, who would otherwise go hungry. The cost-of-living emergency has seen another increase in the need of its services coming on the back of the pandemic, where the number of food parcels they sent out doubled year-on-year to 19,137.
The Foodbank are currently sending out 1500 emergency food parcels a month and to enable them to do this they rely on food and cash donations and our hiking challenge is part of a number of fundraising activities we are carrying out throughout the year to support them.
If you would like to donate to this amazing charity, and support our team of hikers, you can donate here, with 100% of the donation going directly to Newcastle West End Foodbank and remember the more we get the more ‘hellish’ the challenge!
