Leading Newcastle law firm, Hay & Kilner, has expanded its banking and regulatory compliance team with the appointment of an experienced senior industry specialist.
Rachel Haswell-Cohen has joined the growing practice as senior manager in compliance services. With 15 years’ experience in the field, latterly with UK Asset Resolution, Rachel will provide mortgage and banking regulatory compliance advice to Hay & Kilner’s national and international financial service clients.
The compliance practice supports lenders and brokers in assessing and complying with the many rules and regulations affecting their businesses and building programmes to help meet the many challenges facing these organisations.
Phil Broadhurst, a partner and head of Hay & Kilner’s Banking and Regulatory Compliance Unit commented:
“Rachel’s appointment is key to our development plans to meet the needs of our banking and mortgage lender clients who are facing an increasingly tough regulatory regime. Having previously worked with Rachel at Citigroup we are delighted to be able to welcome someone with her experience and qualifications. The next few years are going to be challenging for many of our clients’ regulated businesses as they face the new regulatory structures and controls put in place after the banking crisis. Having Rachel on our team will help boost our support in this area.”
Rachel’s career started at Halifax Building Society as a graduate trainee. She then moved back North to her home city of Newcastle upon Tyne to Citigroup followed by her appointment as Senior Compliance Manager at Northern Rock plc. She obtained an MBA in 2007.
