Furlough Scheme Extended

12 May 2020

The scheme has been extended until the end of October 2020 to all sectors. Employees will continue to receive 80% of wages subject to the £2,500 gross monthly cap but from August employers will ‘start sharing’ the cost of the scheme. It is not yet known how much the government proposes to contribute to the 80% and employers are to be asked to contribute.

The scheme will operate on the basis of its current rules until the end of July 2020.

From August to October 2020, furloughed employees can be brought back to work part-time. It is not known at present if this applies only to those already Furloughed or if employees can be Furloughed for the first time and on a part-time basis after 1 August 2020.

Coronavirus

Full details are expected by the end of May.
