Hay & Kilner celebrate success in the Legal 500

02 Nov 2018

In a highly successful year for Hay & Kilner, Legal 500 continues to rank the firm in all areas of legal advice, a demonstration of the quality and breadth of service the Newcastle-based firm offers its clients.

In a year that saw the firm shortlisted in no less than 10 categories at the Northern Law Awards, and win Commercial Property Team of the Year, it is extremely encouraging to see Legal 500 rankings endorse our quality full-service offering to clients in the North East and beyond.

Our Corporate and Commercial Team, which is ranked by Experian as a Top 10 M&A adviser for the North East, were highly active in M&A transactions, with our clients describing us as ‘very responsive’ and ‘cost-sensitive’. Both Jonathan Waters and the ‘practical and very competent’ Mark Adams were acknowledged.

Our ‘professional and commercially aware’ Commercial Litigation team is headed up by ‘Leading Individual’ Martin Soloman and acts for a wide range of clients across many sectors, including manufacturing, technology, finance, transport, agriculture and energy.

Our Employment team continues to grow its client base and has received significant praise from clients. The team is described as ‘very approachable’ and ‘takes time to understand the client’s business, gives the best advice, promptly and with great commercial awareness’.

It’s been a great year for our Commercial Property team, who won Team of the Year in the Northern Law Awards and retain their Legal 500 ranking.

The team advises housebuilders and developers on property transactions, portfolio management and leases.

We are delighted to see our construction team enter the Legal 500 rankings and being described as ‘extremely professional’ and demonstrating ‘great business acumen’. Jan Rzedzian is praised for his ‘depth of knowledge’ and ‘good advice’.

The Private Client arm of the business continued to do exceptionally well. Our large and highly successful Private Client Team retains its rankings in all areas and is headed up by Alison Hall, this year’s President of the Newcastle Law Society. Clients say they can ‘….trust the highly respected team to do a very good job’. Alison is described as ‘an authority on many aspects of inheritance tax’ with ‘an excellent understanding of trusts’. Alice Clewes is described as ‘very personable’ and ‘provides tailored, easy-to-follow and practical advice’.

We are delighted to retain our Tier 1 status for our Clinical Negligence team and are proud to be quoted as providing an ‘exceptional level of client service and attention to detail’, with the team described as ‘hugely experienced’, ‘very hardworking and friendly’ and ‘tough negotiators’.

Our first-class Family team is described as ‘extremely sensible, practical and professional’, headed up by Nicola Matthews, who is seen as ‘a safe pair of hands’, ‘always well prepared and maintains a good rapport with clients’.

Our Tier 1 Crime team continues to be recognised as a leader in its field.

Jonathan Waters, Hay & Kilner’s Managing Partner says: “I am delighted that the firm is recognised by Legal 500 across all areas of advice. This has been a good year for us where we have continued to grow our teams and our client base on both the commercial and private client sides of the business.”
