Newcastle law firm, Hay & Kilner has sold its volume legal services division, Wallers, to Scottish-headquartered UK law firm, Aberdein Considine some 13 years after it acquired the specialist lender services firm.
The transfer has come at a time when the legal sector is seeing significant consolidation within lender services due to cross-border transactions.
Jonathan Waters, Managing Partner at Hay & Kilner commented:
“Clients increasingly require firms to operate both north and south of the Scottish border within lender services. The transfer of Wallers to Aberdein Considine therefore seemed to be the best fit for Wallers and for their many long-standing clients. We very much see this as a positive step for all involved in the transfer.”
All employees of Wallers transferred to Aberdein Considine upon completion. The business will trade under the Aberdein Considine brand and will continue to operate from Merchant House in Newcastle.
John Gladders, former Chief Executive Officer of Wallers commented:
“The merger with Aberdein Considine allows the former Wallers business to offer a greater range of services including estate agency and financial services. It also provides national coverage to clients. Aberdein Considine is a people firm and, like us, always put their clients at the heart of their service.”
Aberdein Considine is a national Scottish law firm that provides legal, property and financial advisory services to a diverse spectrum of private and commercial clients. Since opening in 1981, Aberdein Considine has grown to become a ‘Top 10’ practice in terms of both fee earners and turnover.
