Move to Lumen headquarters drives job creation at Hay & Kilner

A move into new, state-of-the-art headquarters has helped Hay & Kilner add more than two dozen people to its expert teams over the last 12 months.

The independent practice took over the whole of the fifth floor of The Lumen building in the Newcastle Helix hybrid city quarter last September, bringing its whole city team together in one place and providing room for new recruits to join.

Since then, it has seen 25 new recruits join the firm, with new roles being created right across its different personal and commercial specialisms.

And it has now invested in creating a dozen further work spaces within the 14,600 sq ft Lumen office in anticipation of accommodating further new joiners in the future as the business grows.

Hay & Kilner operates a hybrid workplace model, with staff splitting their week between their homes and the Lumen office, but it provides a dedicated desk for every member of the team to ensure they know they have their own space available whenever they need it.

Jonathan Waters, Managing Partner, says: "One of the key drivers behind moving to The Lumen was finding the space we needed for the staff we were expecting to need as the business grew and we’re very pleased to be realising these recruitment ambitions.

“We’ve been recruiting right across our different specialisms, with our dispute resolution, family law and private client teams being especially active, and we’re investing in our infrastructure now to ensure we can accommodate further new recruits.

“When we discussed with our staff what they wanted in the new building, having their own desk was very high on the list, and while we’re happy with our hybrid working model, we believe the ownership this gives them of the space has been a key factor in the high levels of attendance we have in the office every day.

“There’s a real enthusiasm for being in this high-quality location, which is great for the cohesion within our teams and across the wider firm, and the clients and contacts that we’ve welcomed here have been bowled over by how much of a step up we’ve taken by moving here.”
