Kerry Kelso - my weekend

We find out what Kerry Kelso gets up to on a typical weekend.

Do you ever have to work weekends?
Yes. There are times when I have to work over the weekend if there are court deadlines to be complied with or there is a contested hearing to prepare for at the start of the week, but this isn’t a regular occurrence and I do try to avoid working at the weekend if possible.

Are most weekends the same?
Not really. I do try and fit in quite a lot in at weekends, as I work full time and there is little time through the week. This will include spending time with family and catching up with friends socially. I have 3 children aged 15, 12 and 6 and so a lot of the time at weekends is spent taking the kids to and from parties or their activities like football and dancing.

Do you find it hard to switch off?
Not really. I do find that I don’t think about work that much on a weekend, as I am so busy doing other things.

What do you do at a weekend which you can’t fit in through the week?
It sounds very dull, but catch up on jobs in the house like laundry and cleaning. Catching up with friends and family is the main one.

Morning exercise or a recovery lie in?
Definitely recovery lie in, but it is never a big lie in as we like to get up and get out if the weather is good and not waste any part of the weekend.

Big night out or a night in the house?
I enjoy both, but it is good to let your hair down every now and again with friends.

Do you watch or play sport at a weekend?
My daughter plays football and so I am usually watching her play on a Saturday morning.

Where do you like to eat out at a weekend?
I like to try news places for food. Recently I have enjoyed eating out at Café Andaluz, The Kiln and Blackfriars. They are favourites of mine at the moment, but I do Love a Sunday Lunch and find it hard to get through a Sunday without one. The Impeccable Pig do an impressive Sunday lunch and is highly recommended.

How important is the weekend to you?
My work life is quite hectic and so my down time at a weekend is really important to me. It gives me time to recharge my batteries and spend quality time with my family and friends.

What’s the best thing about weekends?
I love being able to get out for long walks with the family and our Cockapoo Biffy and doing this in our own time without rushing around. On a weekend, you’ll usually find me having a wander at the beach, Jesmond Dene or the Quayside stopping off for food and refreshments.

I love getting away for short breaks at weekend, as I like visiting new places. Listening to live music is one of my favourite things to do. A festival in the sun would be a perfect weekend for me.
