National Agriculture expert heads to the North East for Rural event

27 Mar 2019

One of the UK’s foremost farming industry consultants is coming to the North East next month to discuss the prospects for the agriculture sector at a special event.

Richard King, Partner and Head of Research at The Andersons Centre, will be speaking at a seminar hosted by our specialist Rural department on Tuesday 14 May, at the Newcastle Falcons’ Kingston Park ground.

The event will cover a wide range of topics, including the overall financial health of the UK farming industry, particular issues affecting the arable, diary and livestock sectors, and the future evolution of the sector’s regulatory environment.

Based in Leicestershire and established almost 50 years ago, The Andersons Centre is the UK’s leading consultancy to the agricultural industry and provides economic, policy and market analysis to around 2,000 rural businesses which cover every aspect of the sector.

Born into a farming family, Richard has been with the Andersons research team for more than two decades, and provides specialist business research training and briefings for a wide range of agricultural clients right across the UK.

He is also a Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers and a member of its Farming & Environment committee.

Richard said: “Agricultural businesses of all sizes and type have a lot of common operational issues to address, including profitability, returns of investment, financial planning, diversification and succession planning.

“We’re also on the verge of the biggest change to the industry in decades, but while the precise implications of Brexit aren’t yet clear for the farming sector, there are a number of policy areas where we can see change coming and can therefore prepare to manage it.

“Our aim is to share some of the practical experiences of industry peers around the UK as well as our considered insight into the future prospects for the agricultural sector, all of which will hopefully help rural businesses in the North East enhance their operations.”

Alison Hall, Partner and Head of Agriculture & Rural at Hay & Kilner, added: “This is the first time for more than a decade that a representative from Andersons has come to the North East to speak and we’re extremely pleased to be bringing Richard up to our region to share his wide-ranging sector agricultural knowledge.

“Our specialist team works with clients ranging from rural small businesses and landowners with just a few dozen acres right through to settled estates with more than 1,000 acres, and we believe all of them have something to learn from a speaker who is acknowledged as a real expert in our industry.”

Places at the Prospects For UK Agriculture seminar, which runs from 430pm to 7:00pm on Tuesday 14 May, are free, and include a light supper. But must be booked in advance. For more information on the event, and to register your place, please see here.
