Mark Harrison

Mark is a partner and head of our criminal litigation department. He is a duty solicitor and a higher court advocate allowing him to represent clients at police stations, the Magistrates Court, the Crown Court and beyond. He has a particular interest and specialism in computer related crime.

Mark is a popular figure throughout the region, appearing in the local courts on a daily basis, handling a wide range of major cases. He also represents clients country-wide, having represented clients in Hull, Sheffield, London, Lewes and beyond.

He is recommended for his work in The Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners, both independently researched guides to the legal profession. Mark was recently awarded joint Lawyer of the year at the Newcastle Law Society’s awards.

Notable recent cases that Mark has been involved with:

1: R v K (2014)

Mark was Junior Advocate and Litigator in a murder trial involving complex issues as to causation and self-defence.

2: R v M (2013)

Two handed murder involving Lithuanian Defendants. Mark acted as both Junior Advocate and Litigator in the case.

3: R v W (2013)

60+ defendants charged in one of the Country’s biggest insurance fraud cases, dubbed “cash for crash”. Mark and his team represented those who were thought to be the principal offenders in a complex and widespread fraud conspiracy.

4: R v H (2014)

Mark represented a principal defendant in an alleged large scale timeshare sale fraud conspiracy. The defendant was acquitted at trial.

5: R v B (2013)

Mark acted as litigator and advocate for the Defendant in a large scale drugs conspiracy. The defendant was one of only very few to escape immediate custody.

6: R v M (2012)

Mark appeared as a litigator and advocate for the Defendant through to the Court of appeal in what was, at the time, the largest Attorney General’s reference of sentences considered  ‘unduly lenient’ following the conclusion of a large scale drugs conspiracy involving ties between the North East and North West of the Country.
