Premise licence services

As part of our commercial property offering, we also offer premises licence services. Our premise licence team specialise in assisting businesses and individuals in navigating the complex regulatory landscape associated with obtaining and managing premises licences, particularly in sectors such as hospitality, entertainment, and retail.

We provide expert guidance on the licensing process, ensuring compliance with local laws and regulations.

We will help you to prepare and submit applications by carefully considering your premises and management of that in accordance with the licensing objectives, represent you at hearings should it become necessary, and advise on any objections or disputes that may arise.

We also support you in understanding the implications of operating under a licence, including conditions and responsibilities, ultimately helping you to secure and maintain the necessary permissions to operate your business successfully.

We offer pragmatic and straightforward guidance to support the application process and look forward to working with you.

For pricing information in relation to certain licensing applications, please see our pricing guide.

How long will an application take?

Unopposed applications for a new premises licence or for a variation usually take 29 days for us to be notified if the application has been granted or not. This is on the basis of the application being relatively straightforward and you being able to provide all the necessary documents promptly.

Other types of applications are subject to their own time frames. We can provide you with an estimated time scale when we discuss your matter in our initial call or meeting.

If your matter is more complex, for example, if there is substantial opposition from interested parties, or if there is a delay in receiving the documents we need, it may take longer. Applications may need to be resolved at a hearing which will add further time.

Who will deal with your case?

Work will be undertaken by our licensing specialists. All work will be supervised by John Morgan, a Partner in our Commercial Property team who will ensure quality advice is maintained throughout.

Our team of specialist licensing law solicitors have many years of experience in dealing with applications under the Licensing Act 2003.

John is supported by Jennifer Boynton, who is an Associate Solicitor in our Commercial Property team specialising in sales, acquisitions and licensing matters for the leisure & hospitality sector and Beth Donaldson, who is a commercial and commercial property litigator.
